Apple Fritter Bread

I have to plan my trip around the perimeter of the grocery store to avoid the bakery.  If I weaken, even for a second, and look at an apple fritter - I have no willpower.  Something about the glaze on the tender-crisp fritter with a few chunks of apple peeking out...  Duplicate fritter nirvana yourself at home with this bread (minus the deep-frying)

I don’t know why I’ve been thinking of apple fritters lately - probably something to do with a whiff of them frying as I walked past the bakery the other day.  I know they are far from healthy - but I have to have one occasionally.

Most Thursdays I take a sweet “breakfast-y” treat for my shift at the Conference Center - so I decided to be brave last night and dream up a bread that didn’t require all the steps your everyday fritter has to go through.
I always browse the web when I want to try something new - it’s pointless to reinvent the wheel.  The only thing I came up with was a bread sold at Walmart made by Grandpa’s Oven.

It had some stellar reviews - so I thought it was worth a try.  The Walmart version doesn’t look anything like this one (I’ve added their photo for comparison’s sake) - and it has raisins in addition to the apples.

At-Home Version of Apple Fritter Bread
This has all the things I love in an apple fritter.  Little chunks of fresh apple throughout (check), tender fritter with a crisp outer crust (check), moist interior (check), and a glaze that bowls you over (check).

I need invite my family home for breakfast soon for a taste of this apple “fritter” bread - I can’t wait to try it again.

  3. Noticed the last few lines of the recipe are covered by pictures. The last readable line is "Allow to rest in pans for about 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks". Can you let me know what the rest says? Thanks. Missy

  4. Not sure why you can't see it - I've checked it on several computers. Here is the remaining text you can't see:

Apply a generous topping of the glaze made from melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk - stir and adjust milk/powdered sugar till a pourable consistency.

Allow to cool if you want to slice it - otherwise, dig in!
